Ready, aim, fire!


Another familiar sight along Marine Drive is the Cape Recife Rifle Range.
Anyone who was forced to endure National Service in the Apartheid years will remember doing target practice here. Again, due to clearing, it is now more visible from the road than it used to be.

I remember in like St 8 (grade 10) we had a bivouac (I think thats what it was called)weekend where we camped there for school cadettes (once a week we were forced to drill up and down the rugby field). There were some aspects of it that was adventurous but in general I hated it. It was there I realised that the army life wouldn't suit me and luckily compulsary ary got scrapped before I had my turn. Phew...
