Oceanarium

The Oceanarium, with its dolphin shows, has been one of the icons associated with Port Elizabeth for many years. It has had its ups and downs, but an upgrade is planned, and it always offers an interesting time to tourists, as well as useful research on and help for marine species.

  1. I love the mural, I thought the dolphin was real at first, I am easily duped.

  2. Very nice mural. I like the added dolphin jumping up into the sky.

  3. This is Classic PE--the Oceanarium and the Museum complex evoke many wonderful childhood memories! I made my family visit last July, for old-times' sake. It was wonderful to see it all through the eyes of a museum educator, and I am sure that my career path has been influenced just a little by these institutions!
    Loving this blog, SAM!

  4. Now THAT brings back memories! Glad to hear they are going to do a refurb. I rememebr many mornings at the Oceana tea garden at the oceanarium, as well as many dolphin shows and visits to the Tropical House. Does the Children's Museum still exist, where you could look inside a mousehole by lying on the floor?

  5. I feel for the artist who designed it. Curator to artist: we'd like an underwater seascape, and yes, can you stick giant coca cola bottles into it?
